NEW ORLEANS -- For flamboyant tight end Jeremy Shockey, the party is over -- at least in New Orleans
Shockey was released Tuesday by the Saints, who appear ready to move on with promising second-year pro and 2010 third-round draft choice Jimmy Graham.Shockey was no stranger to the Big Easy social scene and also helped give the city a reason to celebrate like never before. He made a crucial touchdown catch in the fourth quarter of the Saints' lone Super Bowl victory over Indianapolis in Miami just more than a year ago.

But with one season and $4.2 million in base salary left on Shockey's contract, the Saints decided the best way to pursue a second championship would be without the 30-year-old, nine-year veteran.

Brett Keisel shaves his beard for charity

The beard, Brett Keisel's(notes) lionlike facial hair whose wit, personality and vibrance made it an international star during Super Bowl week, died Thursday night at a charity event in Pittsburgh. It was eight months old.

The flowing chestnut locks were shorn during an event which raised over $30,000 for cancer research at Pittsburgh's Children's Hospital. Keisel's teammates Hines Ward(notes) and Aaron Smith(notes) were on hand for the euthanizing, each cutting parts of the Merlin-esque wonder. In a final tribute, the receiver even attached a piece of the clippings to his chin, making him look like a beat poet hanging with Dylan and Ginsberg at the Cafe Wha?

Later, in the seclusion of a downstairs room, Keisel and the beard spent a final few minutes together as a professional barber sheared off the remaining, Bunyan-esque locks. When it was over, the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end was left with a stubbly look that took years, and loads of machismo, off of his appearance. He then emerged on stage, a suited, broken man.

"I feel naked," Keisel said. "I feel like I'm 15. It's been a long time since I had this look."

Back From Dallas

The Road to Superbowl has been alot of fun. We left Feb 3 for our trip to Texas. Got the last flight out of Orlando to Houston as a winter stormwas heading into San Antonio. Just made it to the Alamo and Riverwalk when the storm started moving in. Interstates were closed the following day and we headed up to Austin as a side trip. Made our way up to Plano which is outskirts of Dallas where we spent 3 nights. Saturday headed into Dallas for Celebrity Beach Bowl and Maroon 5 concert which was really awesome. Same day we traveled to Sundance Square where ESPN was taping in Ft Worth and partied at Pete's Dueling Piano Bar where Big Ben was spotted by TMZ nights earlier. Ended our trip watching the Big Game at Malarkey's Tavern where they had a huge Steelers Party as they are one of the biggest Steelers bars in Texas. Met the Steel City Mafia and also a few X Pittsburgh players like Yancey Thigpen and Deshea Townsend. Trip was memorable as every Superbowl city and game ususally is! Can't wait to make it to the 7 Maybe next yr!!
